Opposition is growing over controversial wind turbine plan

LORD Naseby and Euro MP Roger Helmer are among the signatories of a letter to a national newspaper backing MPs who have expressed concerns over the Government’s policy on wind turbines.

The politicians, along with chairman of Northamptonshire CPRE Sir Paul Hayter, and Brixworth-based entrepreneur Guy Schanschieff, added their names to those of more than 100 MPs who wrote to David Cameron on January 30.

In the letter to the Daily Telegraph, they said of the MPs: “They felt it is unwise to make consumers pay, through a levy on their bills, for the quality of energy production that typifies on-shore wind turbines. They asked the Government to cut dramatically the subsidy for on-shore wind and spread savings between other types of reliable renewable energy production and energy-efficiency measures.”

MPs have called for changes to a new national planning policy, which they say lowers the chances of people defeating unwanted proposals.

The letter concluded: “We agree with the views set out... and we urge the PM to act on those recommendations.”
