A dream for any small business is a recommendation from a popular celebrity.

And a little tea shop in the village of Welford can boast a kind word from none other than TV and radio star Chris Evans.

Tea shop owner Caroline Armstrong met Chris after winning first prize at a baking competition held earlier this month at CarFest, a food, music and cars festival masterminded by the Radio 2 presenter.

“I won the cake competition with a Victoria sponge,” explained Caroline.

“Later Chris tasted my cake and said it was ‘amazing’.”

The former Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush star was happy to pose with Caroline after sampling her cake.

“He was really nice, and went on about my ‘world famous sponge’,” said Caroline.

“And, yes, it’s really great to have a celebrity endorsement!”

If you want to share that Chris Evans cake experience, you won’t have to wait too long.

Caroline’s refurbished tea shop – called Elevenses – is re-opening in Welford on September 3, in a unit next to, but separate from, village pub The Elizabethan.

The cake contest’s judges included a competitor from series four of the Great British Bake Off, Christine Wallace.

She told Caroline that her sponge was “unfault-able”.

“ I couldn’t ask for better than that,” said a happy Caroline.
