Would you like some ice in that?
It’s a question most staff at a cafe or bar have asked at some time.
But on Bank Holiday Monday, the staff at Starbucks in Harborough decided that they would keep the ice to themselves. And put it into eight buckets. And pour it over their own heads.
It was all part of the Ice Bucket Challenge charity phenomenon, aimed at raising awareness and cash for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive degenerative disease that affects nerve cells.
Starbucks manager Emma Draisey said: “Eight of us got soaking wet, and now the idea is to get the whole town involved.”
Starbucks has nominated New Look, Waitrose, Pizza Express, Steffans and Duncan Murray Wines to take on the freezing challenge. And Waitrose staff responded on Tuesday morning, with their own self-soaking. The Starbucks staff who took part were boss Emma, Ella Steward, Tamara Field, Ashley Winckle, Lydia Sandy, Daniel Render, Eddy Crowe and Jack Cherry.
