Harborough achieves secure station status

A TRAIN station in Harborough has achieved a secure station status as part of the Department for Transport’s Secure Stations Scheme.

Harborough MP Edward Garnier has congratulated Market Harborough railway station staff for its re-accreditation as a secure station.

The scheme is intended to improve and standardise security practices at rail stations in the UK.

To achieve accreditation, stations must conform to certain standards proscribed by British Transport including satisfying independent passenger surveys that measure the safety concerns of passengers.

Edward Garnier said: “The reaccreditation of Market Harborough as a “secure station” is excellent news.

“It is very important that people feel safe when they are travelling and I hope they will feel reassured now Market Harborough rail station has been given this status.

“I have always found the staff at the station welcoming and willing to help. I hope they are proud of what they have achieved.”
