Future at IT form for apprentices

Apprentices are logging on to the IT industry thanks to a company that helps businesses get more from their budgets.

Abtec Network Systems, based at Compass Point business park in Harborough, is running an IT apprenticeship scheme.

Over the 12-month scheme the apprentices will gain skills and knowledge in communications technologies.

The successful apprentices will have the opportunity to take a full-time job with Abtec at the end.

The company has 22 years of IT industry experience and wants to share this.

At the end of the scheme each apprentice will have certified skills from major technology vendors, such as Microsoft, Cisco, BT and O2.

Cameron Sippits, one of the six new apprentices at Abtec, said: “I’ve learnt a lot about how technology can help businesses do things quicker and cheaper.

“I’m already applying this to local companies that Abtec supports.

“We helped one company access all of their office files from their mobile phone using our O2 mobile and Microsoft knowledge.”

The apprentice scheme could continue beyond the first 12 months.

Abtec managing director Andy Beyno said: “The unemployment rate for people aged between 16 and 24-years-old is over 20 per cent.

“Abtec Network Systems helps businesses by reducing their IT and communications costs, but if we don’t train people how to do that we will have a skills gap in the future. Our apprenticeship scheme will help us plug that gap.”

There is still room for one more apprentice.
