Florist is blooming after its town move

Staff at Whites Florist, Lutterworth, are celebrating have just moved into new premises after the business spending 50 years in the old one.

Staff at Whites Florist, Lutterworth, are celebrating have just moved into new premises after the business spending 50 years in the old one.

A FLORISTS which has been part of Lutterworth town centre for more than half a century moved to a new location this week.

Whites Florist opened its first shop in Bank Street more than 50 years ago and stayed there for more than 30 years before moving to its former home in High Street about 16 years ago.

Current owner Ruth Tallis, who took over the business about eight years ago said the latest move was in response to changes she has seen in the retail industry in recent years.

She added: “In relocating the business to Church Street we hope it will address customers’ demands for a more convenient shopping experience as it is closer to the car parks in George Street, Chapel Street and Station Road.

“I look forward to welcoming customers to the new shop.”

The unit Whites has occupied was formerly the Blush Beauty Salon, which closed its doors earlier this year.

Whites is the second new addition to Church Street in recent months following the opening of Barkers Pet Supplies on the opposite side of the street, occupying a unit which had lain empty for some time after the closure of the Exotic Spice Indian restaurant.

Speaking about the new occupancies in Church Street, Lutterworth mayor Rob Coleman said: “It’s so nice to see that people are taking pride in Lutterworth and moving into these shops as it’s never nice to see boarded up windows.

“Costa opened last year and hopefully with these businesses being close together they will all see some spin-off from each other and it can reinvigorate everyone.”
