AN AVID needle worker has turned her hobby into a business as she prepares to open a patchwork and quilting shop in Harborough.

Eunice Pegram will open her new shop, The Quarter Inch, at the former A6 Mobility shop at 20 St Mary’s Road, at 9.30am on Saturday.

Mrs Pegram said she has been an avid needle worker for more than 20 years, specialising in patchwork and quilting for the past 12 years.

She has longed to turn her hobby into a business for many years, and got the chance after redundancy from her job in the revenue and benefits department at Harborough District Council.

She told the Mail: “For a number of years I have longed to turn my hobby into a full time trade, and initially investigated purchasing an established business.

“However, by establishing my own this has allowed me to have greater control over the style, location and branding of the business.

“I feel Market Harborough is the perfect location, with the attractive town centre and all the individual shops that the town has to offer, which I am familiar with having lived in the town previously for over 20 years.

“Redundancy has helped me to realise my dream of owning my own business and with the help of my husband Jim and daughters Tracy and Clare this is now taking shape.”

The new shop will stock a range of cotton fabrics, quilt notions, wadding, patterns and cotton threads suitable for all enthusiasts, from experienced patchworkers, to beginners wishing to try a new craft with help and support.

Opening hours will be Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5pm.
