Baby boomer Jane recognised with award
THE DIRECTOR of a Kibworth company which produces outfits and bedding for babies has been recognised for her worldwide success with an industry award.
Jane Albon founded her business, Natures Purest, about eight years ago in Kibworth and initially specialised in selling organic bedding for newborn babies before beginning to produce clothing and other lines about five years ago.
Less than a decade on, her products are now exported to and sold in more than 30 countries and shops bearing her firm’s name can be found in places as far flung as Brazil and Hong Kong – although shoppers living in the Harborough area only need to travel to the Natures Purest store in High Street, Kibworth.
Jane’s efforts in exporting her brand name across the globe saw her receive the East Midlands International Business Director of the Year award from the Institute of Directors – which means she is now in the running for the national award at a ceremony in London later this year.
Jane said: “When I set up Natures Purest I never thought in a million years it would be as big a success as it has been.
“I established Natures Purest because there was no-one else offering organic baby products.
“Prior to that I had been working in a similar industry but producing items for the high street.”
Natures Purest has links with a number of large retailers, including John Lewis. Mothercare, Selfridges and even Harrods.
Jane said she was delighted to be nominated for the Institute of Directors award. She added: “I was nominated after someone from the Institute saw a talk I gave at the Leicester Tigers ground where I was talking about how businesses can begin exporting.
“They liked my story so much that they nominated me.”
Jane is originally from Wakefield, in West Yorkshire, but set up home in Kibworth about 12 years ago.
Natures Purest employs about 13 people in Kibworth, as well as a team in Hong Kong, but Jane says she cannot even guess how many people are kept in employment by the company on a worldwide basis.
