Archaeology firm digs out new Harborough office

A FIRM which provides archaeological and heritage services is spreading to the Midlands by opening a new office in Harborough.

Pre-Construct Archaeology (PCA) opened the office on Tuesday. It is its fifth in the UK alongside others in London, Durham, Cambridge and Winchester.

Much of the firm’s work involves working with clients in order to satisfy planning requirements.

Marketing manager John Maloney said: “It is an indication of the highly professional reputation of PCA that major, prestigious projects are entrusted to it.

“For instance, in recent times we have been involved with the Olympic sites, the British Museum Exhibition and World Conservation Hall, the M74 Glasgow motorway completion link and the King’s Cross station redevelopment.

“These projects have included aspects of outreach involving local communities and have won plaudits from local planning authorities and English Heritage.”

Tuesday’s launch, which was held at the Angel Hotel in Harborough, had on display a number of burial pots, some showing faces, excavated from a Roman graveyard during some of the firm’s recent work.

Mr Maloney said: “We wanted to open the office in Market Harborough so we could work with clients in the Midlands.

“We have found that people prefer working with a local contact rather than dealing with someone in a central office elsewhere.

“There is an awful lot of work going on in the Midlands and, as our managing director also moved to Harborough two years ago, it seemed like a perfect opportunity.”

PCA has been involved in a number of small projects in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire but Mr Maloney said the new Harborough office was being opened in a bid to get more involved with larger-scale developments.

As well as providing services related to planning applications, PCA also runs educational events for children, including workshops and the possibility of voluntary work at excavation sites.
