Airfield’s commitment to community is recognised

AN AIRFIELD has received recognition for its support of the community.

Bruntingthorpe Airfield and Proving Ground’s received recognition in the annual Midlands Family Business of the Year Awards.

The airfield was chosen due to its continuing support for its neighbours, the surrounding area and local charities.

Against competition from 20 other businesses it was runner-up in the Commitment to the Community category and received a highly commended award from the judges.

Bruntingthorpe is wholly-owned and managed by C Walton Ltd and the Walton family members run the business.

The airfield provides jobs for more than 200 people, either directly in the company or via on-site-based customers.

Dave Walton said: “We really do take our commitment to the local community seriously.

“It’s always at the top of our agenda - especially our continuing efforts to reconcile the nature of our business with the well-being of our close neighbours.

“Being highly commended for what we’ve achieved is a great encouragement for us to continue our efforts.”

The results were announced in November at Leicester’s Curve Theatre.

The guest list included the family business finalists, awards’ sponsors and Liz, Dave and Pete Walton. John Walton was away on holiday.
