AN ENTERPRISING Harborough man has opened an eclectic emporium full of antiques, curios, collectables and ‘shabby chic’ furniture with everything from a unicycle to a Beatles-themed coffee table made out of an old drum.

The new venture, called the Welland Valley Emporium, represents a complete change of direction from his former steel construction roots.

Adam’s said his passion for old furniture combined with his creative flair for ‘breathing new life’ into it has inspired him to fill a missing niche in Harborough.

He is using a portion of his large showroom to house his workshop, where he will restore, paint and customise any furniture customers are invited to bring along.

Adam said: “It’s a great feeling when I put out for display a piece, whether it be a table and chairs, writing bureau or wine rack that was unloved and tired looking, and is now beautifully painted, waxed and polished and given new life.

“The response I’ve had from customers so far has been fantastic, with a lot of people saying that Harborough has been missing a shop like this for a long time.

“The collectables, especially, have been a real hit, and there’s such a mixture of things to look at here.

“There really is something for everyone – the unicycle especially has had a lot of comments, although only one person so far has admitted to being able to actually ride one!”

Adam said the items are sourced from a variety of places – from car boot sales to antiques markets – and some of the items are also his own which he has restored.

He is running the shop with help from Kathryn Allen, also from Harborough.

The Welland Valley Emporium can be found a few minutes from the centre of town close to the back of the Three Swans Hotel, between Abbey Street (at the top of the High Street) and Nelson Street, set back a little on Goward Street.
