Beer brewed in memory of local radio enthusiast

Award winning Langton Brewery has even more reason to join CAMRA at this year's Leicester Beer Festival. Its theme this year '50 Years of Local Radio' has a very special meaning for them.

Lawrence Plant, employee at the Langton Brewery, lost his step-father, Carlton Dale, in December last year aged only 53, having been diagnosed with a brain tumour 10 months earlier.

Carlton had a passion for local radio, having worked in the industry for over 30 years, including a 10 year stint as managing director at Leicester Sound in the 90s.

During the 80s, he worked at Mercia Sound in Coventry, firstly as a sales executive, then as operations manager.

In his memory, owners of the Langton Brewery, Alistair Chapman and David Dyson, came up with the idea of developing an extra special beer, and naming it Carlton D’Ale! This new brew will premiere at this year’s festival.

“Carlton recognised my passion for brewing and the industry and encouraged me to follow it” said Lawrence, who joined the brewery in 2011.

“His passion throughout his life was local radio. My brothers, sisters and I have many great childhood memories of time spent at Leicester Sound events with Carlton. He was good fun, loved a pint and would have really enjoyed coming along to the beer festival! We miss him a great deal.”

Leicester Beer Festival runs until March 11 at Charotar Patidar Samai, Leicester.
