Backing for war memorials fund

A campaign by the Mail to raise funds for the upkeep of war memorials in the district continues to gain support in the community.

Last year the Mail launched a campaign to raise funds to help with the maintenance of war memorials in the district.

We hope that, with your support, we will also be able to raise enough money to help the Royal British Legion to commemorate the anniversary of the beginning of the First World War in 2014 in our district.

The campaign was launched with the support of the Royal British Legion, Harborough Council and Market Harborough Building Society. The building society donated £100 to kick-start the campaign.

Mark Robinson, chief executive of the society, said: “War memorials are such a focal point for communities and it is really important that they are kept in a good condition in order to honour those who have fallen during war.”

There is a collection tin in the Mail’s office in Northampton Road, Harborough, open 9am-5pm on weekdays.

People can also donate by paying in cash or cheques, made payable to Harborough Mail/Harborough War Memorial Fund, over the counter at any branch of Market Harborough Building Society.

The account details are Harborough Mail/Harborough War Memorial Fund, sort code 20-49-08, account number is 70608306, reference number 09004285209.
