CONTROVERSIAL plans to build wind turbines on fields between Lubenham and Gartree will be in the spotlight at a public exhibition today (tuesday, July 7).
Cumbrian company Energy4All wants to build three 125-metre tall, 90-metre wide turbines on farmer James Wright's land.
Concerned residents in Lubenham and surrounding villages have held meetings to oppose the scheme.
Energy4All is holding two
drop-in sessions this week into its plans at Lubenham Village Hall today (Tuesday, July 7) and at Harborough Theatre in Church Square, Harborough, tomorrow (Wednesday, July 8).
Since the Mail broke news of the plans in June last year, Energy4All has reduced the number of turbines from four to three. It says the three turbines would generate a total maximum capacity of seven-and-a-half mega watts which would power about 4,000 homes.
It says the Gartree Wind Power Co-operative would run the project, which has since been officially registered with the Financial Services Authority. People will be able to purchase a stake in the project and receive an annual dividend from net operating profits.
Project manager John Malone said a planning application is still being finalised, adding: "I do know that people have mixed views on wind farms and I hope many will come to the exhibition to see for themselves what we are doing."
At the exhibitions people will be able to ask questions or find out the co-operative. Both sessions are running between 3-8pm.
