THE BODY of a woman has been found on railway tracks near Kibworth.
Rail workers reported the grim discovery at about 4.20pm on Tuesday (May 6) after finding the body on the line between the A6 at Kibworth and East Langton.

A spokesman for British Transport Police, which is investigating the incident, said they ar
e not treating it as suspicious and said the woman was believed to be from Leicester and aged in her 50s.

She added: “We received a call from a member of rail staff who said a train had struck a woman. Officers and paramedics attended and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

“We are investigating the circumstances and are preparing a report for the coroner.”

A rail worker told the Mail that they saw a woman walking near them carrying two cans of lager while they were working on the track.

She said “hello” and carried on walking, and then they heard a loud thud before discovering the body on the track.

A silver Mondeo car was spotted at the footpath nearby, which police are aware of.

People with any information can phone the British Transport Police on 0800 405040.
