YOUNGSTERS from Lutterworth at the end of a course to improve their health and fitness had a trip to a supermarket to put everything they had learned into practice.
The group visited Sainsbury’s at Fosse Park in Leicester with their parents to take part in a food-themed treasure hunt where they read food labels to learn about which foods are most healthy.

They also had a tasting session, sampling unusual fruits and vegetables like fennel, celeriac, sweet potato, pomelos and baby courgettes.

The supermarket tour came at the conclusion of a ten-week course called Mind, Exercise, Nutrition and Do It! (Mend) which aims to get children to experience and enjoy a wide range of healthy foods and activities.

Some of the activities on offer included swimming, gym visits, cooking and tasting sessions.

Mary Scott-Morgan, programme manager for Mend, said: “The supermarket tour is one of the ways we encourage children to develop good eating habits to set them up for life.

“During the course, we see dramatic improvements in their confidence, behaviour and relationships – and happy children and parents as a result.”

Although the latest course has just come to an end, another ten-week scheme starts at Ellesmere College, Narborough, on September 29, and continues every Monday and Wednesday at 4.30 to 6.30pm.
