The pressure's on at free blood checks day
TWO PEOPLE may have made a potentially life-saving decision when they attended a blood pressure clinic in Lutterworth organised by the town's Rotary Clubs.
The event, at Morrisons, was attended by hundreds of people.
As a result, two were told to make urgent appointments with their doctor and 65 were told to seek further advice from their GP.
The clinic, in a caravan in the supermarket car park, was staffed by volunteers from the town’s two medical practices.
In all, 117 women attended and 95 men.
The clinic was run by both the Rotary Club of Lutterworth and the Rotary Club of Lutterworth Wycliffe to coincide with Stroke Awareness Day.
Peter Osborn, from the Rotary Club of Lutterworth, said: “The doctors from both medical practices were presented with additional blood pressure monitors earlier in the day.
“They can lend these out to patients when needed.
“There were a lot of positive comments about what we were doing.
“People liked the idea of not having to make an appointment and they appreciated the effort being made on the day.
“The nurses and doctors were a bit stretched but they managed to cope.”
Lutterworth mayor John Turner was invited to have his blood pressure checked on the day.
Mr Osborn thanked everyone who had made the day a success.
These included organisers of the event Bryan and Shirley Cooper, the volunteers from the town medical practices who had helped on the day, and Morrisons.
