FOUR youngsters from the area have fought off tough competition to win a spelling bee contest.
Year 7 students Liam Hughes, Peter Wisher, Charlotte Gyandoh and standby Sophie Gray won the competition organised by The Times newspaper.

It was held last month at the Odeon cinema in Kettering and words spelled correctly by the pupils from Harborough’s Welland Park College included ‘corrugated’ and ‘deterrent’.

They will now face another heat in the semi-finals, which will be held at Leicester’s Odeon cinema on Friday next week.

The ten winning teams from the semi-finals will travel to London to compete in the grand final at the Odeon in Leicester Square on June 23.
