A LEAK in a road sweeper left part of Harborough's High Street needing a clean yesterday (Wednesday, Feb 6).
Oil was left on the pavements after the leak on a 'sit on' road sweeper.

The sweepers, operated by Veolia Environmental Services on behalf of Harborough District Council, clean the town of litter by 8am each day.

A spokesman for Harborough District Council said a hydraulic hose on the sweeper split, causing a spillage and added: "The spillage was hard to detect due to the wet weather. Once the leakage was detected, Veolia responded quickly to clean-up the spillage. The leaking pipe was repaired immediately and the repaired machine was then used to wash the oil away with water and brushes."

Veolia applied an "oil-dry" substance which soaks up oil over a period of about 24 hours.
