CON MEN have struck at a woman's home by pretending to be doing council-commissioned gardening work.
The new distraction technique was used by the crooks to target an ex-council home in Meadow Stret, Harborough, on Thursday (February 25) at about 3.50pm.

Harborough police revealed the information yesterday (Monday).

The con men told the female resident, who was aged in her late 60s, that they were doing gardening work on behalf of the council and managed to convince her to hand over £200.

Insp Neal Holland, head of Harborough police, said these so-called "distraction burglars" normally pretend to be from the water board to gain access to people's homes and said this represented a new con-trick that people need to be warned against.

All of Harborough District Council's former council homes have now been transfered to private firm Seven Locks Housing.

Anyway with information about the crime is urged to phone Harborough police on 0116 2222222.
