VETERANS enjoyed a lunch at Harborough's Angel Hotel to mark a day celebrating the contributions of ex-Servicemen and women.
Members of Harborough branches of the Royal British Legion and Royal Air Forces and Royal Naval associations were joined by Harborough District Council chairman Brian Smith for the lunch, on Friday.

Veterans Day has been held once a year since 2006 and is a celebration of the contribution made by people of all ages who have served in the armed forces in conflicts past and present.

It is hoped Veterans Day will become as familiar and respected as Remembrance Sunday, which honours those who died serving their country.

Royal British Legion branch spokesman George Seward said: “The Veterans Day is a fairly recent innovation but it’s becoming well established now. Everybody I have spoken to said they enjoyed the lunch. It was a very successful occasion.”
