SOLDIERS were applauded as they marched through Harborough town centre on Saturday morning.
About 70 soldiers from Number Seven Company of the Coldstream Guards marched down High Street and Northampton Road at about 9.20am.
The gaurdsmen are part-way through a 25-day, 425-mile journey from the regiment's birthplace in Coldstream, Berwickshire, down to London.
The soldiers had camped in Tur Langton the night before and set off from there at just after 8am on Saturday.
Harborough's Jill Mann, whose son Lt Col Kam Khan is a medical officer with the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards in Afghanistan, said: "There was a good crowd out lining the High Street to applaud them and cheer them on.
"The marchers were going on down the Brampton Valley Way to Northampton where they were staying in TA barracks.
"It was a good occasion in the town."
The trek is marking the 350th anniversary of a march undertaken by Gen George Monckton and his 6,000-strong army in 1660.
*The march is fundraising for the Army Benevolent Fund and £6,852 has been raised so far.
