YOUNG runners are invited to raise money for a project to build a safe cycle track between Harborough and Lubenham.
A 1km fun run for children aged eight to 14 will take place on Sunday, June 15, on the fields behind Harborough Leisure Centre to raise money for the Adam'Smile project, created in memory of 13-year-old Adam Mugridge, who died while cycling to school
in September 2006.

Entrants will be encouraged to raise sponsorship money, half of which will go to Adam'Smile, with the remainder going to a cause of the runner's choice.

Three races, one for eight to ten-year-olds, one for ten to 12-year-olds, and one for 12 to 14-year-olds, will be held at 10.30am on the Sunday.

Everyone completing the runs will get a certificate and the category winners will get a trophy and prize. Prizes and medals for the runners have been sponsored by the Wheel and Compass pub, in Weston by Welland, and by The Midland Army and Navy Stores, in Adam and Eve Street, Harborough.

Carnival committee secretary and fun run organiser Tracy Campe said: "Scout groups, schools or football clubs could form teams, or a group of friends who just want to raise money can enter, too. Half the money will go to Adam'Smile but the rest can go to any cause – so football teams could run to raise money for their club."

At last year's run more than £700 was raised for deserving groups.

More than £30,000 has been raised for the Adam'Smile campaign and a route along the old railway line has been agreed in principle but more money is needed to maintain it.

Adam's mum Kate Mugridge said: "We continue to be overwhelmed by people's generosity. The fund is growing and it is allowing positive progress to be made. We would like to thank everyone who has helped or who are continuing to help."
