A FORMER Tur Langton farmer celebrated his 100th birthday with four parties.
Stanley Cramp, who turned 100 on September 6, celebrated with a party for friends and family at the village hall in Tur Langton.
But the celebrations did not end there as Mr Cramp went on to enjoy three further parties at Evington Hall, at Harborough Theatre and at the Angel Hotel in Harborough.
He said: “The parties were excellent. I’ve had quite enough cake for this year though.”
Born in Kibworth in 1908 – a year which also saw the first of Ford’s famous Model T cars roll off the production line – Mr Cramp was one of seven brothers and, aged three, moved to The Laurels farm in Tur Langton with his family.
After serving a two-year apprenticeship with motor firm HM Lonsdale when he was 16, Mr Cramp went into the family farm business.
In addition to running the farm, he owned a cattle transport business and also served in the Home Guard during the Second World War.
Mr Cramp’s wife Laura, whom he married aged 21, worked for a dress-making company in Leicester but died in 1987.
Now living in Smyth Close, Harborough, Mr Cramp still follows his beloved Leicester City FC and enjoys playing bowls with the Vista group for blind or partially sighted players.
Mr Cramp, who has nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, said: “I feel no different now that I’m 100. I feel fit. My walking isn’t what it used to be but I intend to stay active.”
