A SIZZLING success was celebrated by organisers of Desborough's Baskets, Boots and Barrows Festival at St Giles Church.
“The teas on the lawns literally went like hot cakes,” said organiser Stella Freeman – after a gloriously sunny weekend and the best attended festival ever.

There was a record-breaking total of nearly 90 festival creations filling the church.

The youngest entrant was four while, at the other end of the range, was a participant aged over 80.

There was a mixture of serious and humorous entries.

The various winners were:

Boot, child – Jack and the BootStalk by Lucy and Nala; boot, adult – There Was An Old Woman by Pals (Parents Association of Loatlands School); barrow, child – Cinco de Mayo by 4th Desborough Guides; barrow, adult – Four Candles by Stan Freeman; basket, child – Open All Flowers by Loatlands Primary School Year 1; basket, adult – tie between Under the Sea by Alan and Vivien Window of Little Bowden and Spring Harvest by Louise Bulcock.

The Ladybird house was won by Maisie Smith, who found the correct number of ladybirds.
