A DRINK-DRIVER accelerated away when he saw a police car in a village in the early hours, Harborough magistrates were told last Thursday.
Police gave chase and when Guy Hester was stopped a breath-test revealed he was nearly twice the legal drink-drive limit.

Hester (35), of The Square, Newton Harcourt, admitted drink-driving at Tur Langton on April 23.

Lynn Manning, prosecuting, told the court that the breath-test reading was 69 – the legal limit is 35.

Wayne Hollingsworth, for Hester, said he had consumed five bottles of lager on an empty stomach at a local pub.

Despite driving 1,250 miles a week for his job, he had had a clean driving licence before this case.

Hester apologised for the offence, he said.

Hester was banned from driving for 16 months, and ordered to pay a £350 fine, £60 costs and a £15 court surcharge.
