Dog bite woman's appeal to owners
A WOMAN is appealing to dog owners to keep their pets on a lead after she was badly bitten on the leg while out walking.
Angela Culley (57), of Popple Close, Broughton Astley, needed tetanus jabs and medical treatment after a Rhodesian Ridgeback dog bit the back of her leg in an unprovoked incident.
Mrs Culley was on a walk with her husband Dave near Glooston when the incident happened.
She said: “We were walking up a hill when I saw a young dog come running over the top.
“It stopped to have a sniff of us then ran away and a few moments later I saw its owner come over the top of the hill with another dog.
“We had stopped for a moment because my husband wanted some fruit from my backpack and I was standing there when the first dog came back and bit the back of my leg.”
Mrs Culley said the dog’s owner at first tried to tell her that his dog was only a puppy and the injury could not be serious.
She added: “I could feel the blood coming down my leg and I rolled up my trouser leg to see how serious it was.
“It was bleeding quite a lot at the time and has since swelled up. I needed to have a tetanus jab.”
Mrs Culley said the dog’s owner, who left the scene soon after the incident, was very apologetic but she feels he should have been taking closer control of his dog.
She added: “This was on farmland so I think the dog should have been on a lead at the very least.
“This isn’t the first time we’ve had run-ins with dog owners on one of our walks but I’ve never been bitten before.”
