Dalby's Dog may still have its day
A FAITHFUL dog which kept watch over Lutterworth town centre and was removed for safety reasons could be replaced.
Dalby’s Dog was removed from the roof of the Cawood Jeffries building in 2002 because a number of buses had clipped the building and there were concerns that the dog could be destroyed.
The statue was of a much-loved pet of former men’s clothes shop owner George Dalby and it had stood on its ledge since the 1920s.
It has been on display at Lutterworth Musuem for about two years. Last month, Lutterworth town councillors decided not to pay for a replica after they were told it would cost about £1,800 to create a silicone version of the original.
However, at their meeting on Tuesday, councillors heard that since then several members of the public had stepped forward willing to make donations.
Councillors agreed to pass their details to Lutterworth Improvement Partnership to follow up the offers and councillors agreed.
