A CREATIVE ten-year-old performed the official opening ceremony of a revamped Harborough store after winning a school competition.
Farndon Fields Primary School pupil Ben Masters was given the honour after winning a contest to design a poster promoting healthy living.
The supermarket, on the corner of Coventry Road and Farndon Road, has recently undergone an extensive £400,000 refit which has seen an increase in its floorspace, its fresh food and grocery ranges.
As well as getting to open the new-look supermarket, on Friday, November 27, Ben also received four tickets to see a Leicester City FC match.
His winning design was displayed in-store for the next week and Tates, which runs the shop, also gave a £500 donation to the school.
School head Steve Snelson said: “The children were very excited at the prospect of winning the competition and having the chance to officially open the new look store. It is fantastic to see an investment in local business and even better to see local businesses investing in the community which they serve.
“We are looking forward to using this very generous donation to improve literacy resources in school and hope that this is the beginning of a long-standing relationship between Tates and Farndon Fields Primary School.”
Anthony Sappor, business development manager for Tates, said: “Our customers have children at the school, our staff have children at the school, and as a business it makes perfect sense for us to directly invest in the community that sustains us.”
