THE DEATH of a Harborough woman who used to run a newsagents in town has inspired her daughter to take part in a Race for Life event in aid of Cancer Research UK.
Sue Durham, who with her husband Pete used to run Montgomery News in Bath Street, Harborough, was 60 when she lost a battle with cancer in June last year.
Now her daughter, Jo Wood, is taking part in the Race for Life at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, on Sunday to raise money in memory of her mum.
Mrs Wood (39), of Hamilton in Leicester, said: “It will be just over a year since mum died so it will certainly be an emotional time.
“I’m humbled to think that I will be able to raise funds in the hope of helping others avoid having to experience the trauma that mum and the rest of the family went through.”
Mr Durham is now living with his daughter but still visits Harborough regularly as he is a member of the town’s golf club. Mrs Wood, who is running with her aunt, Jo Attewell, from West Bridgford, Nottingham, is aiming to raise £500 for the charity.
To sponsor Mrs Wood, visit www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/woo dattewell or send a cheque, made payable to Cancer Research UK, to Jo Wood, assistant registrar, vice-chancellor’s office, University of Leicester, Fielding Johnson Building, University Road, Leicester, LE1 7RH.
