Market Thoughts: “Proud to sponsor Pride in Harborough Award”

As in previous recent years, this year we have happily agreed to sponsor a category in the Harborough Mail’s Pride of Harborough Awards (see page 18 of today’s paper for more information about the awards).

Upon being presented with the choice of Pride categories to sponsor, I didn’t hesitate in deciding upon Service with a Smile.

So, what does it mean?

To me it’s not the saccharin sweet and insincere Americanism of “Have a nice daaay!” or the cynical grin of the salesman realising he has just earned his commission!

To me, it’s a genuine interest in the needs of the customers that is expressed with an infectious friendliness that will ensure that customers will keep returning.

In the Market Harborough district, I believe we have this talent in abundance, from the highly enthusiastic independent retailers to the master professional craftsman.

I urge anyone who knows of a deserving recipient to fill in the online form at the Mail’s Pride in Harborough website.

People can also write to: Pride in Harborough Awards, The Mail, 9 Northampton Road, Market Harborough, Leics. LE16 9HB. The awards night is on April 26 at The Three Swans Hotel in Harborough.

I don’t envy the judging panel as I think it will be a tough decision to make.

So, what, I hear you ask has any of this got to do withMarket Thoughts?

Well, in the past, estate agency and first-class service have not always been associated with each other.

However, one of the few benefits of the property recession is that, in the main, the sharp-suited “do you a deal” estate agent has become a thing of the past.

Over the previous three months, we have seen a marked increase in business and as we do get busier we have had to make a conscious effort to ensure that we maintain exceptional service levels.

I would like to think that all professional estate agents will be making the same considerations.

But should you be on the receiving end of any incidents of sharp practice, arrogance or rudeness, don’t just give that agent the boot but tell all of your friends as well.

I, for one, shall be looking forward to the Pride in Harborough Awards ceremony and to making the presentation with a particularly big smile!
