Wealth of talent on show at Mayor’s variety performance
TALENTED performers put on a show in Lutterworth to raise money for good causes.
The variety show at the town’s Wycliffe Rooms on Saturday featured members of the Helen Warrington Dance group, Future Faces theatre school, pupils from Lutterworth College and ‘The Entertainers’ group.
Produced by Norma Harratt, the show included dance, singing, musical performances, magic, monologues and more.
It was held in aid of town mayor Rob Coleman’s charity appeal for the Air Ambulance and Christians against Poverty.
The night also saw the first stage appearance of Peter Farmer, who won a £50 bet with Cllr Coleman after performing Unchained Melody on stage.
Cllr Coleman said: “Peter suggested it as a joke at first. I remember hearing him in karaoke once and he got booed off stage.
“We had a £50 charity bet which Peter won, but he was good enough to return my £50 to add to the money raised on the night.”
The event raised about £250.
“I was so proud to see local talent giving high class performances that we all could be very proud of,” said Cllr Coleman.
“There were a lot of youngsters performing and that’s one of the other reasons we held it - to give them a chance to show off their talents.
“It went extremely well. We had about 70 people and it was a nice evening to have just before Christmas.
“It has really finished the year on a very high note.”
