A FESTIVAL known as much for being a place to party as for its family-friendly vibe took place over the Bank Holiday Weekend at Kelmarsh Hall.

Shambala started last Friday and finished on the bank Holiday Monday at Kelmarsh Hall and Gardens.

People camped or came for the day to see more than 200 diverse musical acts across 12 live stages and experience the many delights the festival has to offer.

There was cabaret, an array of workshops, stand-up comedy, inspirational talks and debates, circus and acrobatic acts, interactive theatre and poetry in beautifully decorated venues.

As well as being known as a legendary party the festival is a haven for cutting edge theatrics and performance.

The Big Burn Grand Finale on the last night of the festival featured an epic fireworks display, which was watched by some festival-goers from hot-tubs.

Reggae, Hip Hop and Dubstep were just some of the genres of music played by performers at the festival.

Sid Sharma, creative director of Shambala said that feedback from the event so far was that it was the best ever.

Kenny Farthing, commenting on the festival’s Facebook site, said: “Amazing. Can’t wait to do it all over again next year. The most stress free festival ever.”

Some of the workshops at the festival included a craft area and a sing, dance and drum workshop.

Leah Franklin, of Granville Street said: “I’d say it’s the most family orientated festival I’ve been to. The kids area is fantastic; it’s separate from the rest of the festival with its own quiet camping area and is packed with fun activities for all the family which continue throughout the weekend.

“There are also endless workshops that run daily so you can try your hand at everything from pottery to belly dancing!”

She added: “Shambala is a magical weekend which offers a friendly atmosphere and community spirit.”
