HEARD the one about the haunted council house? What about the typewriter that started typing on its own? Or the Irish labourer whose ghost is said to plague a village pub?

Well Mike Eason has, and he is telling all in a new book about Harborough’s haunted buildings.

The father-of-two’s new book ‘Haunted Harborough’ contains stories from his film of the same name, released in 1998, as well as some terrifying new tales.

Among them are reports of encounters with ghostly soldiers as well as the apparition of an old woman in a council house on The Broadway.

The Harborough Theatre, The Angel and Three Swans hotels and pubs including The Wheel and Compass in Weston By Welland also feature.

Mr Eason (55), who lives with his partner Michelle Cook in Simborough Way, Harborough, said: “The book is a companion and extension of documentary

“The book shares the same title and covers the stories already featured in the documentary as well as new tales of local eye witness accounts of hauntings. It includes a special feature on Papillon Hall, which used to stand in Lubenham.”

Mr Eason, who works as a designer, said his 90s film began as a history project, but took on a ghostly bent after he read a story in the Mail about a haunted house.

The film, which is still available to buy on DVD, features interviews with eye-witnesses as well as dramatic reconstructions of the events.

Mr Eason said: “I’m scientific by my nature so I’m still on the fence as far as ghosts are concerned. It’s in the eye of the beholder. If you’ve seen something yourself you belive it but its difficult to persuade others.”

To buy the book, priced £9.99, email orders@hauntedharborough.co.uk or visit www.hauntedharborough.co.uk.
