A HARBOROUGH six-piece band are set to appear at the town’s Royalist pub on Friday evening.

This Way Up play a broad range of covers from artists as diverse as KT Tunstall, Dixie Chicks, Crowded House, The Killers, Mike and The Mechanics, Tom Petty and Oasis amongst many others.

Formed about 5 years ago, the band makes regular appearances in and around Market Harborough and also played the Rotary Rocks open air concert last summer.

The band have made previous appearances at The Royalist.

Band leader Pete Smith said: “Our set keeps expanding and I think there will be something for everyone who comes on Friday.

“We tend to play not the normal pub rock stuff. Our set list is a lot more eclectic.”

Pete said he used to play in bands before career and family commitments swallowed up his spare time.

His wife bought him a guitar ten years ago and he started up an informal group for fellow bedroom musicians.

Though there were 40 of them to begin with the number who wanted to perform whittled down to ten and This Way Up was formed.

This Way Up members come from around the Harborough area and feature Debbie Smith (keys and vocals), Gez Rodgers (drums), Paul Carpenter (bass), Kim Tempest (sax, harmonica and percussion and anything else he can gets his hands on), Ian Pryce (guitar and vocals) and Pete Smith (guitar and vocals).
