Royalist’s psychedelic evening

A PSYCHEDELIC Harborough rock band which last year celebrated its tenth birthday is playing at Harborough’s Royalist pub tomorrow evening (Friday).

EastWest features Dave Davies (bass, backing vocals), Steve Rothero (guitar, vocals), Paul de Gallier (drums) and Ron Counte (keyboard).

The band got together in 2000 when Steve began jamming with Dave and the band’s former keyboard player, Ian Stichbury.

The line-up was soon completed with drummer Ron Counte and in 2003 the band recorded and released their first album – Postcards from Utopia.

Paul de Gallier joined the band further along the line, and Ian Stichbury left after a number of years although he was invited back for the band’s tenth anniversary gig at the Coach and Horses in Lubenham last year – the same venue where the band had made its debut live performance.

Since then they have recorded two more albums, EyeWitness (2006) and The Strangest Dream (2010), which, as well as being on sale at gigs, are now being distributed by specialist music companies in the UK, USA and The Netherlands.

The band normally play a mix of their own material as well as covers by bands and artists who have inspired them, such as The Doors, Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix and Steve Winwood.
