THE HILLS will be alive with the Sound of Music after Fleckney’s Duckpond Players became the first amateur group in the area to be granted a licence to perform the classic musical.

Audiences can enjoy the captivating story of the Von Trapp family at Fleckney Village Hall during the first two weekends in June.

Laura Dixey takes on the role of Maria, portrayed by Julie Andrews in the famous film, while her co-star Christopher Plummer - Captain Von Trapp, is played in this version by Scott Holligan.

Sarah Atherton, of the group, said: “We are over the moon to be the first amateur group in the area to be given licence to perform The Sound of Music since its departure from The West End at the end of last year.

“We have some new and old faces on stage and some amazing children playing the Von Trapp children, our youngest being seven years old.”

Performances take place on Fridays and Saturdays, June 1,2,8 and 9 at 7.15pm each evening (doors open 6,45pm), with matinee shows on the Saturdays at 2pm (doors open 1.30pm). Tickets priced at £6.50 (under 3s are free) are on sale at Fleckney Post Office.
