WHETHER you have been put off paintballing by wet weather, the idea of getting your barnet a brighter shade of neon or the cost of the activity, then a new combat sport being offered in Harborough could be for you.

Combat 656 is a new indoor paintballing centre without the paint, without the rain, but still with the same adrenaline-fuelled fun and games that outdoor paintballing has to offer.

Because the game takes place indoors, people can take part in the hobby whatever the weather.

Combat 656 has been set up by Ian Patterson, who lives in The Broadway, Harborough. He says it is ideal for people who enjoy the wildly successful video game Call of Duty.

He added: “Our games are based on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare- style scenarios, so if you like paintball, airsoft, gaming or adrenalin- filled fun, then you’ll love this.”

He has called the centre Combat 656, as this is the name of the British Army Air Corps unit of which he was once a member.

Instead of using paintballs, players at Combat 656 will use ‘reballs’.

These foam-based rubber balls mean there is no mess and they shoot out at a slower speed than regular paintballs.

Mr Patterson said: “A lot of people have said it is just what Harborough needs.

“I don’t think I would have done it in another town as I don’t think it would work.”

He thinks Harborough lacks a venue such as this and says its 20-person capacity could be used for birthdays, stag and hen parties or corporate functions.

There are various games for people to try out including ‘Grab a Granny’ where players must compete to get a mobility scooter back to base before being it is taken out.

Although young people from the age of 11 can attend, under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.

It costs £10 per person and this includes 100 balls and play for two hours.

The centre serves drinks and snacks and there is a viewing area for spectators.

Combat 656, which opened its doors on Satrurday, is available to book seven days a week .

It is located at the former site of Midland Superbikes off Albany Road in Harborough.
