A NEW gallery at a popular rural shopping village opened its doors for the first time recently.

The new 400 square foot gallery has opened at Wistow Rural Centre off the A6 near Newton Harcourt.

All the works on sale have been uniquely sourced from makers, artists and designers in Leicestershire and Rutland, including pieces from both new talent and well established artists.

Owner Kate Foster said she is aiming to offer an exciting, changing and affordable range of ceramics, glass, wood, jewellery, textiles, prints, paintings, photographs and more.

Later in the year she plans to introduce a series of ‘featured artists’ to showcase some of the best talent from the county and allow visitors to meet the artists and find out more about their techniques.

Kate has worked closely with Creative Leicestershire during the setting up of the gallery.

Clare Hudson, creative industries manager at Creative Leicestershire, said: “This is a really exciting new gallery in a lovely setting which will be focusing on the best art and design work made in Leicestershire.

Opening hours are Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 5pm as well as Sundays from 11am to 4pm.
