A STATELY home near Harborough is seeking volunteers to act as room stewards when its doors open to the public at Easter.

Lamport Hall, on the A508 midway between Harborough and Northampton, needs people to help welcome visitors as well as act as tour guides.

The hall was home to the Isham family from 1560 until 1976, when the 12th baronet Sir Gyles Isham gifted the hall and its contents to a charitable trust.

The hall is hosting a number of big events this year, including antiques fairs, art and craft fairs and the Festival of Country Life.

Neil Lyon, the assistant manager at the trust, said: “We are actively looking for new volunteers to help out as room stewards or tour guides for the 2013 season, which runs from Easter (March 31) to mid-October.

“Volunteering in a beautiful place like Lamport can be a great way to enjoy the local area’s rich history and to interact with our many visitors.

“We saw from the Olympics how people with a bit of spare time are willing to help out, and we hope to be able to welcome more volunteers to our team”.

Anyone interested in volunteering at Lamport can contact Mr Lyon on 01604 686272 for more information.
