A GROUP of young dancers were thrilled when they got the chance to meet dance act Flawless during a trip to see the English National Ballet perform with the Britain’s Got Talent’s finalists.

The trip to the Royal Concert Theatre Nottingham to see the innovative new show that fuses streetdance and ballet was part of a special event organised by their dance school Dance Activate, run by former Royal Ballet principal dancer Graham Fletcher, from Kibworth.

The aim was for the 33 students from across Leicestershire to experience a dance show with a difference, and use that towards their bronze and silver arts awards projects. They also took part in a workshop hosted on stage by English National Ballet, and had exclusive access to watch the company rehearse.

“The surprise meeting with Flawless was actually a plan that was hatched by one of our girls, Sophie, who took it upon herself to contact Flawless manager Amelia Benoit and tell her that we were all coming,” explained Dance Activate’s arts awards advisor Jane Fletcher.

“They turned up, signed autographs, had no end of photos taken and were really kind and chatty with everyone.”

Dance Activate runs arts awards alongside normal weekly classes and workshops and regularly offers opportunities for children and students to experience something new.

Next on the list is a celebratory performance at Curve in Leicester in July, when all 215 members will take part in Big Dance Activate 2012 and will be joined by Leicester’s youth Big Band who will play for them live on stage.
