IT HAS come to a poor state of affairs when correspondents have to resort to the wellbeing of a colony of bats in a vain attempt to prevent the erection of the Gartree turbines. We all, and I include the planning department in the all, need to concentrate on the indisputable fact that wind derived energy can never displace the need for thermal power stations. I repeat my previous statement – when the wind doesn't blow the lights won't glow.
