CONGRATULATIONS to the assistant in a well established shop in St Mary's Place, Harborough, who managed to conclude (after some conferring) that a Scottish ten pound note does indeed have the words 'pounds sterling' on it!
I have lived in Harborough for seven years now, happily and harmoniously, I may add, but this does make me cross!
I often have relatives visiting from Scotland who have been embarrassed on more than one occasion as their ‘funny money’ is held up to public scrutiny.
Just for the record, Scottish issuing banks are Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank.
All of them print notes with a familiar face on them – Her Majesty the Queen!
