I WISH to write about two points.
One, the error surrounding the recent elections. We received our polling cards which told us to vote at the Evangelical Church in Harborough.
A week or so later we received a hand-delivered letter from Harborough District Council stating that ther
e had been an error and that if our address was on the back of said letter then we should vote at Little Bowden School or Meadowdale.
Indeed our address was on the back of the letter and we were due to vote at Little Bowden School.
The first error was that the elector numbers did not tally. However, as this letter had been delivered after the polling cards, we decided to follow it.
On polling day we arrived at Little Bowden School to be told that we were not on the polling list and, after a rifle through a pile of papers and a phonecall, we were told that there had been an error and we should have been at the Evangelical Church.
Why, however, when I looked at the polling sheet, was there one house listed for Auriga Street and no more?
Also how much has this cost taxpayers to send out more incorrect information?
Second, why is it that not one candidate knocked on my front door to tell me who they were, what their policies were and how they would improve Harborough?
I understand the town has grown over the years, but the personal touch costs nothing and is much better than having countless leaflets posted through my door.
S Richards,
Auriga Street,
Harborough.
Harborough District Council response:
A leaflet drop (not addressed letters) was carried out in all streets affected to let people know that some poll cards had gone out with the wrong polling station information in the Little Bowden ward. S Richards was not affected by this, although part of Auriga Street falls into the Little Bowden ward, so S Richards would have received a leaflet. New poll cards were reissued to the affected Little Bowden ward residents. S Richards would not have received a new poll card as the original one was correct.
