TENNIS players in Clipston will be treading the boards next week to raise money towards a court refurbishment project.
Murder mystery comedy We Haven't a Cluedo is being staged by Clipston Tennis Club members and friends at Clipston Village Hall in High Street from next Thursday until next Saturday, January 30.

The two-court club, on the sports ground off Station Road, needs to raise £18,000 towards resurfacing its ageing courts.

Two members of Clipston Amateur Dramatic Society and four members of the tennis club's junior section are also helping with the production.

The audience will be invited to solve the murder and suspects include Mrs White, Mrs Peacock, Miss Scarlet, the Reverend Green, Professor Plum and Colonel Mustard.

Member Mike Fowler said the unpainted all-weather concrete courts at the club were first laid about ten years ago and are now showing signs of wear and tear.

It needs to raise £18,000 and over the last two years has collated about £6,000 from fundraisers such as dog shows and a concert. It has also secured a grant of £3,000.

"We have received great support from the village," Mr Fowler said.

It is the second year running the club has staged a play to raise cash, last year it performed Cinders Ella.

The village has had a tennis club since 1935 with the current incarnation formed in 1988. The courts were last resurafced in 1997.

Tickets for next week's shows (7.45pm start) cost £5 and are available from Martin Clarke, the play's writer and director, on 01858 525558. Membership for the club costs £25 per year. For more information, phone the same number.
