Appendix 2
Each stakeholder group had a chance to look back at the past and what was going on now and say what they were proud and sorry about, to set the stage for the future.
Purpose: In stakeholder groups find out how we feel about what we are doing now

Education
Proud
Co-operation between schools / governors / external school
interagency cooperation
Council – actively engage children / youth
CU
BE – integrates all youth including travellers
Outreach development for adult education (into library / homes / farmers)
U3A expansion

Sorry
Bad at getting / hearing voice of minority
No centre for skills and training (practical skills) i.e. a declining skills level. How is this being met?
Too much competition between schools for pupils
Traveller children fall out at secondary education
Low skills – travelling to outside jobs
Give youth responsibility – not enough given
No children centre (yet) for children 0 to 4 years
Intergenerational groups
Culture and attitude
Viewing and labelling groups
Restrictions of H&S
Not letting youngsters be themselves

Community Development
Proud
Proud to be a member of a thriving volunteer led community and be in a position to influence and accept change
Harborough has it's own strong local identity which has been influenced by its historical features and history. This could lead to further support for tourism thereby bringing income into town
Proud that Harborough has a calendar of community events including arts fresco / late night shopping / HIB / Fair Trade / Carnival etc that encourages community involvement with HDC and partners

Sorry
Sorry that the town is so mono-cultural and ignores the cultural and age diversity of town and the county by not being involved in discussion to influence change in this area (BME migration, young people in leisure)
Sorry about traffic congestion and the attempts to alleviate this (speed humps) and that transport (buses and trains) services do not match customer demand
Sorry that more people do not recognise the valuable contribution they can make to the town and that community events struggle to survive through lack of support or funding and that HDC do not recognise the huge economic benefit they bring to the town e.g. Harborough in Bloom

Youth
Proud
Playing an active role in the community by being here
As a school, we are making an effort to help the environment
Of being a fair-trade town and supporting it
Many youth do voluntary and community work
Of participating in local community activities such as late night shopping and the carnival etc

Sorry
For not taking extensive action and looking for opportunities
For not using public transport (or walking) as much as we could
For supporting the multi-national shops instead of our own local businesses
For not doing enough to help combat global issues

Residents and Villages
Proud
Participation in local community
Supporting local businesses
Walking / cycling / using buses
Recycling
Campaigning on local issues
Have a voice

Sorry
Don't make time
Big house – empty rooms yet homeless people in Harborough – wasted resources
Over-use of car
We stop when it becomes a little inconvenient
Don't inspire others to become more involved
Rise of 'selfish' culture

Leisure
Proud
Future candidate in local elections
Involved with Carnival Committee
As a mature student became teacher and later governor
Opening the Harborough Theatre to a much wider community
Reinvigorated the Basketball Club and helped it to grow
Hear children reading a local primary school
Started the Millennium Chorus – singers meet for one day rather than prolonged rehearsals

Sorry
Not using independent shops sufficiently
No longer work with younger groups
Had to give up my role with Civic Society
Wished I did more for the community
Wished I did more in support of green issues
use my car too much – rather than cycle or walk
that children are no longer involved with Parish Church Choir

Community Safety
Proud
Respond to change
Providing a 24 hour health service
Providing urgent health care to the community
Taking the care to the patient, rather than the patient to the care
Quality of care
Community engagement
Low crime rate
A firm local judicial system
Sanction detections have increased

Sorry
That there is a perception regarding the health service
Poor communication back to the service users
Perception of poor care
Difficult to engage hard to reach groups
High perception and fear of crime
Lack of public confidence in system
That detections are not 100%

Council
Proud
Recycling initiative
Car parking and refurbishment
Millennium Mile and Welland Park
Low housing numbers (473 – 345)
New approach to Section 106 etc

Sorry
Aldi Roundabout
Flooding – not complete solution – Anglian Water
Poor planning design – reactive Vs proactive

Business
Proud
HART – brought businesses together; copied in other towns
C.O.T. – reinvigorated
Events
Contribution of time, money and support for charities and groups
Rail campaign, work experience
The success and growth of our businesses
Improved liaison. C.O.T., HiT, Council, HART & Harborough Mail
Providing affordable accommodation for embryo businesses

Sorry
C.O.T. – haven't engaged property with youth / education before
Business community generally not encouraging newer entrepreneurs
Not enough of my fellow businesses engage to support each other or the town – especially the Nationals
Not more events – promotes community spirit and is good business
Not green enough – expense of being green
Not more employment opportunity
