ACCORDING to Doreen Marlow, her 73-year-old friend Pamela Vines truly deserves to be nominated in our Best Front Garden category.
Doreen wrote to us saying that Pamela loves flowers and gardening and takes a pride in her garden and always keeps her lawn tidy and neatly-edged.

She added: "Her garden is very neat and colourful."

Pamela, who lives in a bungalow in East Street, Harborough, retired 16 years ago from her job at Harboro Rubber when her husband was ill and loves to spends her time outside maintaining her garden.

She has seven baskets on the walls containing a variety of plants including geraniums, petunias, lobelia, and busy lizzies to name just a few.

She also has a neat border containing a colourful array of lillies, more busy lizzies and daisies.

Also she tends a lovely archway covered with roses and clematis which invites you up her garden path to her front door.

As she is retired, Pamela says the gardening keeps her busy because she has lots of spare time and she prefers to mow the lawn herself rather than let the council do it.

Doreen and Pamela are good friends and go to a Friendship meeting each week and have regular lunches together.

Doreen joked that she wouldn't want to live next door to Pamela as she would be embarrassed by how well-kept Pamela's garden was compared to hers!
