EMMA King nominated The Bull's Head at Clipston for the best floral display by a pub as she was amazed at the vast improvement in the pub's hanging basket displays since new people have taken over.
Emma, a friend of the landlords Olive (66) and Mike Fulker, said: "When I visited the pub six months ago the outside was very bleak with dead flowers in the window boxes.

Since returning to the pub in the past months the new owners have made 100 per cent effort to brighten up the outside of the building by displaying new hanging baskets, window boxes and decorative barrels and the pub is now awash with colour and vibrancy.

Overall, the pub is more inviting for new and existing customers as the array of beautiful flowers attract old and new people to use their establishment."

Olive and Mike Fulker took over the tenancy of The Bull's Head in April 2008.
They had previously been running a pub in Cambridge but were not happy there and started looking around.

They viewed The Bull's Head pub on a Monday and after accepting the tenancy were asked to move in on the Thursday, not even having a weekend between to catch their breaths.

Olive said the outside of the pub looked drab and the flowers outside were dead and uncared for. She was shown photos of what the baskets had looked like in the past and was determined to brighten the place up.

A friend who is a local gardener put together the hanging baskets, boxes and barrels for them and now Olive and daughter Margaret (46) who is also the chef and a keen gardener, look after them and keep them looking bright and fresh.

Now customers often comment on how lovely the displays are and the lovely smell they give off. especially in the evenings.

It is a family run pub with son-in-law Mark (47) running the bar and granddaughter twenty year old Lisa serving the food.

In their short time they have been there they have cut and tidied up the hedge although Olive said that there is still a lot more work to do in the garden, but its a start.
