MADELEINE Mason used to live in Knighton, in Leicester, but it was too far away from her family, so her daughter Gill, who lives in Lutterworth, found her a lovely retirement home a couple of years ago on a complex in Holly Drive.
She moved in the next week and now Mrs Mason, who likes to be known as Lynn, has one of the most beautiful gardens on the complex.
With the help of Gill, who sent in the nomination, Lynn (76) has created a haven of beauty.
There are pots, planters, hanging baskets filled to the brim with an assortment of colourful flowers and plants bringing a vibrancy of colour to the outside of her home.
Some flowers have been grown from seed but she also buys plug plants and is especially fond of her bright scarlet-coloured geraniums, which people have pointed out.
She has lots of pots and troughs on the patio with geraniums, begonias and a variety of flowers flowing out of them and has also been successful in growing a colourful array of fragrant sweet peas on netting over a trellis which she doesn't get to see being at the side of her house but gives the neighbours a lovely display.
Gill (50) often pops in to see her mum for a cup of tea and to help with the garden.
She said: "Although she needs some help from me with planting, she tends and cares for her small garden and it is an absolute picture. She receives so many positive comments from the other residents, they all obviously get a lot of pleasure from the colourful display."
There are two parts to the front garden, one which is 'cottagey' and filled with lots shrubs and interesting plants, and the other side has a lawn with flowers around it and lovely bench to sit on and take in the view and scents of the garden.
