NICOLA Mathias nominated her sister-in-law, Lady Wendy Mathias, of Great Bowden, in the best front garden and imaginative garden categories.
She said Lady Wendy moved into her home, in Manor Road, in September.

The previous occupier had had several large dogs and the garden was uncared for, consisting of grass and weeds and bark chippings.

Since then Lady Wendy has transformed the relatively small area into a colourful, characterful, oasis of calm and beauty, encouraging wildlife and taking great pleasure and pride in what she has achieved in such a short space of time.

Lady Wendy (49) says her garden is full of flowers, roses and fairies. She had to completely dig the garden over when she moved in and laid a rose bed down and on the other side built a deck with an eating area.

There is one long herbaceous border and three small flower beds and a couple of places to sit as well as a bird table.

There are hanging baskets but most of the plants are cottage garden flowers and fairies because she loves them.

Lady Wendy moved from Westcliff on Sea with her husband when he retired because they had had enough of city life.
